Initial 2017/18 Fixture Release

The RFU have released next season’s league fixtures which remain subject to change until they are confirmed on EnglandRugby.com. We do not yet know which of the spare weekends will be marked as Cup Weekends and which will be Rest Weekends.

If you added the fixtures to your calendar last year, you should only have to re-sync to get this year’s on your phone/PC etc. If you are yet to sync with your calendar, you can find instructions on how to do this here.

End of Season Wrap-up

The Club celebrated the 2016/17 season on Saturday night at our black tie Annual Dinner held at The Grosvenor, Victoria. The season saw the Club consolidate last year’s promotion to the London North West 2, ensuring the Club will continue to compete in the Level 7 league next year. Another promising sign was the number of new playas joining the Club and contributing throughout the season.

As is tradition, a number of awards were presented on the night:

The Club recognised Stephen Hanlon for his outstanding service to the Club on and off the field spanning many years; something all playas can all aspire to. The Club will be presenting him with an engraved tankard

Playas’ Playa – Jack Flanagan for regular outstanding performances and match-deciding contributions and fierce desire to win

Coaches’ Playa – Sean Baker for his no-nonsense style approach and incredibly high and consistent level of physical commitment and performance

Club Man of the Year – David Wilson for staunch efforts in running the clubs finances (rumours of a surplus for the year could not be confirmed) and going above and beyond

Although unable to make the dinner, New Playa of the Year was awarded to Sam Crawley-Tolchard for his commitment to the Club shown in his debut season, both on the pitch and at training

Below is a reminder of how the league table ended up:

6 Nations 2017 Tickets

Emails will be sent out shortly to paid-up Playas and Social Members (more details here) inviting those who wish to enter the ballot for tickets to England v.s. France or England v.s. Scotland at Twickenham this season.

England v.s. Italy tickets have not been allocated – rather the club can apply for as many tickets as required at a number of price bands (£70, £63, £55, £48 – £20 junior tickets are also available at each level). This is the same for tickets to England’s away matches but no prices are currently available – for away games you must agree to pay for the tickets at any price when requesting. There is no guarantee the club will receive the number of tickets requested; if this is the case, priority will go to those who got in touch first.

If you want to request England v.s. Italy, Wales v.s. England or Ireland v.s. England tickets, contact Jon Hardisty by 14:00 Tuesday October 11th 2016.

LNRFC are happy to announce a new social membership available to all. The club has a truly international following and whether you are able to make it on a Saturday or you’re following us via our posts online – we thank you all! “For the playas, by the playas” has never just referred to the 18 gents that pull on the shirt this weekend; it continues to stand for the 100s of you who support from all corners, each in your own way.

Social members will benefit from discounts to club stash, coach travel to away matches (when available) and our end of season dinner, early access to social event tickets when numbers are limited and access to the club’s allocation of International Tickets*. We’ll be reviewing the benefits of social membership regularly so watch this space.

LNRFC Social Membership for the 2016/17 season is only £30 so please fill in the form below to apply and show your support!

*Our allocation has changed in recent seasons meaning we only have enough tickets to allocate to 4-5 different members per game. The tickets will continue to be allocated by ballot but a pair of tickets for each session (i.e. 6 Nations or Autumn Internationals) will always be reserved for a separate ballot for social members only. Therefore, a pair of tickets is guaranteed to go to a LNRFC Social Member each session. To help us get more tickets, get in touch with us and make yourself available for the 2nd XV!

Announcement: New Head Coach

London Nigerian Rugby Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of a new Head Coach for the 2016/17 season. Former professional player Joseph Mbu will coach the side in London 2 North West after this season’s promotion:

On his new role, Joe said: “It’s a great honour to be asked to coach LNRFC, having watched them as a young impressionable teenager many years ago. I have also had the pleasure to coach various players from LNRFC over the years at National level and have always been impressed with how passionately they spoke and enjoyed being part of ‘the Playas’ club’.

Next season will be LNRFC’s 25th, a poignant season indeed and we are lucky to have such a close knit bunch of men, who have gone about their business quietly and efficiently, gaining promotion yet again.

Whilst the road back to the National leagues is going to be long and no doubt painful, I do believe there is a core group of players here at LNRFC that will be integral and drive our long term plans.

In the short term, I expect another robust showing next season and I will certainly be pushing for more of the same, fast, aggressive rugby with a little bit of Nigerian flair!”

Captain Charlie Esberger added: “We’re all really looking forward to working with Joe and very happy he’s coming on board. I firmly believe that with his experience and fresh ideas, coupled with the talent in the squad, we can thrive in London 2. It’s a genuinely exciting time to be a part of London Nigerian rugby.
